Pop, Thump Thump, Thump Thump...

Smack dab in the middle, between Oklahoma City and Amarillo we blew a rear tire.  We were on the 40 heading towards Amarillo when it happened.  It was a supper loud pop. Kind of sounded like we ran over a rhino.  We pulled off the highway as much as we could and called AAA.  I wanted to just change the tire, but for my best interest Kelly wouldn't let me.  Once AAA arrived they followed me about 3 miles to the next exit driving on the shoulder.  It was our rear passenger outside tire.  We still had a good inside tire.  Our spare was put on and we were on our way.

Not so fast.  Now that we used our spare we didn't have spare.  It was a Saturday afternoon, where were we going to find a spare?  The next little town was Elk City, Oklahoma.  Avoiding the interstate we took Old Route 66.  It is a historic road,  the first US interstate spanning from Chicago to LA.  We couldn't find anything in Elk City so we decided to continue on Rt 66 all the way to Amarillo.  There was nothing in-between except cattle ranches.  It took us a lot longer going that way, but without a spare tire we didn't want to risk another blow out on the highway.  On the bright side, we would have never experienced how cool Route 66 was.
